‘Chemsex’ Is Coming To The United States

When scouring hook-up sites, do you look for a ParTy?  Do you notice those that are looking for more than just sex? PnP?  Is that a draw for you or do you steer clear of such things?  Sex, drugs, and rock and roll are not just your daddy's mantra, but chemsex has been around since he was a teenager.  It's the way of many boys out there looking for a good time, an equation where good times = your body + drugs.

The title of this blog, 'Chemsex' Is Coming To The United States, is in reference to the documentary being brought across the pond to the United States later this year, originally released in December 2015, but will land here in North America in November 2016.

Chemsex: the name given to the rising phenomenon which refers to the use of drugs in a sexual context. Often referring to group sex that can last for days, the allure of chemsex has lead to many young men being trapped in a vicious circle of sex, addiction and dependence.

This powerful and potent film tells the stories of gay men whose lives have been affected by the crisis; from self-confessed ‘slammers’ to sexual health workers, from those who deny there’s a problem to those who ‘got out alive’. Offering unprecedented access, Chemsex is a brave and unflinching journey into the dark underworld of modern, urban gay life.  Chemsex [was] released by Peccadillo Pictures in cinemas from December 4th, 2015 in Europe. – youtube.com

Breaking Glass’ CEO Rich Wolff negotiated the deal with Nathan Fischer of Stray Dogs. “Chemsex holds back no punches, it is a visceral and honest look at a subculture that many are unaware of. This kind of unflinching story is synonymous with the Vice brand and Breaking Glass could not be more excited to work with them in bringing this powerful documentary to North American audiences!"  Breaking Glass is planning a VOD and DVD release for November 2016. – wickedgayblog.com

Is there a big Chemsex culture in your city?  Your nation?

Which is the drug of choice? Living down here near Miami, I am surprised that cocaine is still one of the more popular chemsex drugs.  Welcome back Miami Vice?

One commenter at the wickedgayblog states:

Meth has been in the gay scene and at the gay clubs in Seattle since I started going out and that was 22 yrs ago. It's always been available but it has it's peaks and valleys as far as popularity, and availability.

Do you think this documentary will be something people will watch?  Will it make a difference?

What are your thoughts?

UPDATE:  It is amazing how many people and even other bloggers have read just the title of this entry and said "Instinct thinks that Chemsex is new to the United States."  We want to thank the readers that read an entire blog / entry instead of just shooting from the hip after reading the title.  Myself, at 42 years old, been out in the gay community for 20 years fully knows that chemsex is here, was here, and most likely will be here for some time to come.  Once again, to those of you just reading the title and making your comments, your actions and comments are insulting.  Be a little more intelligent about things and read before you put your foot in your mouth.

  1. In my 20+ years as a

In my 20+ years as a psychotherapist working with gay men and chemsex I think it is important to dispel the notion that recovery is impossible. It is certainly difficult but thousands have moved beyond these drugs, particularly meth. Much more information in my book "Lust, Men and Meth: A Gay Man's Guide to Sex and Recovery" available on Amazon. David Fawcett PhD.

  2. It’s sad that this is still

It's sad that this is still an epidemic. Gay culture in the USA has already dealt with this hugely from 2000 to 2010. It's still hear in our gay male communities, but nothing like it was. It's peak was 2003 to 2006, and has since lowered. To be honest it's really frowned upon, and the millennial won't have it

Education is key. Most large cities in the USA especially NYC lead awesomecampaigns to bring awareness and to demonize the parTy  culture that was ravishing it's gay communities.

Now it's calmer, almost too calm. Crystal Meth yeah it's still their, but she packed her bags and went across the pond it seams, now we have molly and other fillers. So we aren't exactly clean yet. But ar least the terror, that evil bitch Tina is not wanted as much.

Why because during her hey day HIV infections skyrocketed and lives changed, and the community came together to change it.

If we can do it here, you can do it too! We are not perfect, we still rage, but we are smarter.

But we must never forget,  cause it can come back to haunt our younger generations.

  3. Wow I hope this is really

Wow I hope this is really accurate and not another Hollywood fluff piece. Have been part of this seen Close to 25 years I've experienced all aspects of it, some of it was fun, some crazy, and honestly most I can't remember. I've contracted HIV during that time and I was also a very Active drug addict, i used all drugs and any drugs to fulfill my need for sex, that longing to be connected, the desire to be wanted. I Spent and lost a good part of my life chasing the dragon or in this case chasing that perfect dick. I have been with thousands and thousands of men in 25 years very few of them I can remember their names where we met or what we even did. In the early 1980-2008 everything was different,  the sex drugs and people. Now I look at how convenient and easy everything, How are young these kids are on the sites and how young they are contracting HIV. Lack of knowledge and ignorance and the ability to think that you're invincible it's Such a young age this is Driving force the heavy can sex in this world today.

I've been sober now seven and a half years and I helping many young kids coming in straight off the party scene not knowing how to live life or there is even a life to live not doing drugs.I have told each one of them that there is much more to life and much better sex, much more happiness not on drugs or that delusion of Chemsex. Take a while for the brain to readjust but when it does Life is amazing.

I hope this documentary is as informative and not just a trigger the rising epidemic of Chemsex.

    Peace.

  5. Chemsex was a part of my life

Chemsex was a part of my life ever since I started my first job working in a gay bar at the age of 21 in 1978 and we were still full in the midst of the "Drugs , Sex and Rock and Roll" era of free sex, long before the AIDS pandemic.  Every conceivable illegal compound was readily available to me working in the club industry for over 3 decades and I did not hold back.  Invited to all the best parties because I was a high profile DJ in the best clubs in Los Angeles, drugs were literally handed to me on silver platters at times and PNP sex parties were almost a daily ritual.  I mean why not people were handing them to me all the tme, setting me up with chemists in Berlin who manufactured the purest and most potent meth, not the homebrewed biker crank that passes for crystal today.  Times were good, the music was better, drugs were pure and the sex was endless.  I am very much looking forward to viewing this movie and see if the producers got the story right.  I also hit rock bottom, a few times, pulled myself up by my bootstraps, all on my own.  At 60 years, I am not only grateful I survived it all but also more than a little surprised.  Yeah, now days I am chem-free and beer is boring by comparison but man do I have lots of stories to tell.   Hell, I could have written the screenplay for this project!

  6. After a 4 year “chemsex”

After a 4 year "chemsex" addiction I feel I am one of those who got out alive. My rock bottom was the 3rd time I slammed. I am looking forward to watching this. Hope it is accurate, unlike so many drug documentaries.

PS: clean for 12 years!!!!! 🙂
