We are happy to share more news concerning The Miseductaion of Cameron Post.
We talked to you late last week about how the premiere of this film about the effects of conversion therapy on minors was a big hit.
In addition, we shared that the cast and crew, including lead actress Chloë Grace Moretz who has two gay brothers, were committed to being as factual and realistic about the negative effects on LGBTQ youth.
Now, we’re thrilled to announce that the film has won the grand jury prize at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
After winning the prize, Moretz got to the stand, as you can see in the video below, and said:
“We want to dedicate this award to the LGBTQ survivors of sexual conversion therapy,” Moretz said in her acceptance speech Saturday night. “We want this movie to shine a light (on the fact) that it is only illegal in nine states out of the 50 to practice sexual conversion therapy.”
Now, everyone's wondering if The Miseducation of Cameron Post will take the same path that Moonlight and Call Me By Your Name took.
Both films were celebrated at the Sundance Film Festival before gaining enough buzz to warrant wider releases, than they would have had, and eventually getting award season buzz.
Hopefully, The Miseducation of Cameron Post will do that same. Surely, this film has an important message and topic concerning the negative effects of conversion therapy camps on LGBTQ youth, and the cast and crew really want to share that message as much as possible.
