Meloni And Hargitay Reunite Amid Special Victims Unit’s Ground Breaking 21st Season

Let’s be real: Can anyone name a beefcake sexier than Christopher Meloni? This bubble butt, daddy of the century knows he’s sexy and still continues to ham it up for the cameras in viral videos and in his line of work. We’ve almost always seen him portraying the confident, suave Adonis that he is in series like Pose, Handmaid’s Tale, True Blood, and Oz. But, I believe most of us watched him chewing scenery in his best role: Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’s (SVU) Detective Elliot Stabler. For twelve years, we got to treasure Meloni on our screens and fell head over heels with him. Alas, a contract dispute prevented him from returning to the primetime series which is going into it’s twenty-first season, the longest live action, primetime drama series ever. But, could a possible return to the series be in his future?

Online speculation has been laid after award winning actress and arguably the face of SVU, Mariska Hargitay, posted a photo of herself and her former co-star, Meloni, on Instagram. The two played partners and have cemented themselves as one of television’s best duos. Superfans like myself have long awaited the return of Meloni’s iconic character and now the writer in me is begging for my fan fiction to come alive that he’d make an appearance in the latest season. I mean, come on, think about it: His return, even for an episode, in an iconic season of the series only seems fitting, right?! The writers of SVU never gave Meloni an official send off. The next season he simply wasn’t there… so, yes, we need this closure! Check out Hargitay’s reunion post of them below:

To further make us speculate, Hargitay lives and works in New York (she’s currently filming the latest SVU season amid some fun activities according to her Instagram). Meloni is based in California. Hargitay posted the photo of the two of them on Sunday claiming to be at dinner and is now seemingly in Palm Springs, California – but, I’m going on my belief that Meloni flew to New York to film his cameo. I guess I’m not the only one hoping for a Meloni comeback. SVU’s showrunner, Warren Leight, recently said the following:

“It’s interesting to me. As long as the show is running, I feel like we will–someday, I would hope to see him again. I don’t know how, I don’t know when, but, yeah, that’s kind of, I think the fans and Benson and Stabler are owed that.”

Regardless, SVU season 21 premieres on September 26th on NBC. The long running series has gracefully and beautifully handled many, many LGBTQ storylines – which are always my favorite – and I cannot see what they will come up with next.
