The Wayne-Union family and Pose? Yes, please!

First off, we love Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union, Zaya, and the whole family. Ever since they took Zaya for Miami Pride last year, they have been nothing but a source for pride, love, and joy for us all to enjoy and appreciate. And of course, that hasn’t changed with today’s story.

Former basketball player Dwyane Wade appeared on the Watch What Happens Live! show with Andy Cohen. While sitting beside comedian Michelle Buteau, Dwyane Wade talked about a series of things like his old Miami Heat teammates, his relationship with Gabrielle Union, and his daughter Zaya. But, it was his words on the show Pose that got out attention.

A fan of the show called in to ask Wade why he contacted the cast of Pose about his transgender daughter Zaya. Specifically, she asked, “What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about what it means to be transgender to the cast of Pose?”

In response, Wade said:

“The lesson that my wife and I learned is, first of all, we got information. We didn’t have a lot of information. We reached about pronouns. We wanted to make sure we didn’t get it wrong. So we reached out about the pronouns and making sure that we said the right things to our daughter… She’s identifying as a young lady, and we wanted to make sure that we got all the language right. So, we reached out to make sure that we had all the information that we need. Because, we are learning in this process as well.”
