Congratulations to Nuno Costa on his first month with his new daughter Maria.

According to Gays With Kids, out gay CrossFit athlete and coach Nuno Costa took the entire month of February off from work and sport so he could spend time with his new daughter. After saving up for a surrogate, named Alaina, Costa got a two-week early surprise in the form of Maria Antonieta. Maria was born on the night of January 30th and was “7lbs and 11 oz., 20 inches long.”

“She’s absolute perfection! Everyone is doing well — healthy and recovering from the most amazing past 24 hours,” Costa shared on social media after the birth.

Three weeks after the birth, Nuno talked to Outsports to share that the two were having a great time getting to know one another.

This turn of events is the cherry on top of Costa’s great success story. While he was once a cocaine addict and alcoholic, Costa used fitness to help him get sober. He then found his way to CrossFit, athleticism, and sports competitions. In 2014, Costa won a gold medal in sprinting at the 2014 Gay Games. In addition, Costa’s San Diego-based CrossFit Invictus team won the Affiliate Cup at the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games.

Again, Costa took a month off from work in order to settle his daughter into their home. But sadly, he’s going back to work next week. Plus, he will be traveling to Puerto Vallarta in order to work as a coach. But thankfully, Costa has help for raising Maria. Namely, he hired an au pair.

“She’ll be with me this time but not every time,” Costa said.

Congratulations to the happy father and daughter. We hope for many years of love and support for you two living in the same household.
