Gay Man Denied Marriage License By Kim Davis Is Now Against Her Opponent

Is it better to be openly homophobic or privately? David Ermold says neither.

Ermold, who had been denied a marriage license by Kim Davis, ran against her for Kentucky Rowan County Clerk, and lost the Democratic primary, now says the guy who beat him is just as bad.

According to the Associated Press, Ermold believes that Kim Davis would make a better County Clerk as she’s at least honest about his convictions. They say Ermold thinks the Democratic candidate named Elwood Caudill Jr. is a homophobe and a liar.

“I just want him to lose. I would rather Kim Davis win,” Ermold said to AP. “At least Kim Davis has the integrity to stand up for what she believes in. Elwood Caudill is a liar,” said Ermold.

That said, Ermold has confessed to not having any first-hand experience with Caudill expressing homophobia. He admitted to only going on the word of social media posts, one of which has already been withdrawn after blaming a hacker attack.

In response to Ermold’s accusations, Caudill released a post on Facebook denying these alleged homophobic viewpoints.

"Is it not ludicrous? It's just crazy," Caudill told the AP. "It doesn't make any sense to me."

In response to the AP post, Ermold says that he isn't supporting Davis but rather being critical of Caudill.

"Of course I don't support Davis, and I never will," he wrote in another Facebook post. "The suggestion that I do is non-sense. The quote in the AP article is taken out of context, plain and simple."

Ermold also shared that he won't be voting for either candidate as a sign of protest for the two options.

Earlier this year, Kentucky resident David Ermold ran for Rowan County Clerk. Ermold wanted the position after he was denied a marriage license three years ago.

It was the now infamous Kim Davis who denied Ermold, and several other gay men, license because of her religious convictions. These actions eventual led to her arrest.

Afterwards, Davis announced that she would be running for the position again in November, but Ermold then announced that he’d also be running.

“I am running to restore the confidence of the people in our clerk’s office and because I believe that the leaders of our community should act with integrity and fairness, and they should put the needs of their constituents first,” he told the he told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

He then added, “My commitment to Rowan County is to restore professional leadership, fairness, and responsibility to the clerk’s office. I will build upon the successes of the past, and I will seek solutions for the challenges we may still face.”

Unfortunately, David Ermold lost the primary for the Democratic nomination in May. Now with only a few months until the election, Ermold is questioning both canidates for the position, and one news source is twisting his words in support of Davis.

Will any of this have an effect on the County Clerk position? We’ll see in November.
