Gay News Source Story Leads To Arrest Of Man Who Threatened Orlando Style Massacre

It seems that we need to keep everyone in check these days when it comes to our rights and our protection. Yes, we're here, we're queer, stop forgetting about us and our rights!

In one of our recent posts, we were floored that the Current US Government Omitted LGBTers From Yet Another Policy.  It seems that a Buzzfeed article titled "Commerce Department Removes Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity From Equal Employment Policy" led to the government writing a formal apology. Whoops and we meant to include you guys in the policy, really we did. Don't worry, we're use to being left out.

A new "whoops, we were getting around to it" case just happened here in Florida.  Recently, our friends over at South Florida Gay News published a story commenting that there had been a two month lax in following up with a threat to our LGBT community.  Here's an excerpt from the SFGN.com story along with some of our previous posts about Jungwirth and his rocky recent and upsetting past.

Last week SFGN reported that an arrest warrant had been issued against Jungwirth in April, yet despite knowing his current address, he still had not been taken into custody.

Four days after the SFGN story appeared, Jungwirth was finally arrested in Orange County for a violation of probation. It’s still unclear what took so long for authorities to apprehend him.

“In general, when a warrant is issued attempts are made to bring the person in custody,” a spokesperson for the Broward Sheriff’s Office told SFGN last week. “The warrant is also added to a national database that law enforcement officers can check when coming into contact with a person.”

Jungwirth is infamous for allegedly threatening a Pulse-style attack against the LGBT community in Wilton Manors. He was eventually arrested, but the charges were later dropped after prosecutors determined the case against him to be “weak.”

According to the current arrest warrant signed on April 19, Jungwirth violated the terms of his probation by violating a no-contact order with the victim of his crimes, local businessman Nick Berry, the owner of Rumors and Courtyard Café in Wilton Manors.

In April Jungwirth allegedly posted messages on the Facebook page of Rumors about BeachBear weekend, an event he has organized in the past. He also posted messages noting that he was going to run for mayor of Wilton Manors.

“I did not respond to him,” Berry said. “I didn’t even try to get his probation violated. His probation officer reached out to me and I confirmed the posts.”

The warrant also noted Jungwirth had failed to undergo a mental health assessment, a second and mandatory condition of his probation.

Personally, I know several people that have been threatened, harassed, and gone through hell dealing with Jungwirth.  To know that there are many more is very upsetting, but I am sure we are all feeling a little better now.

Thanks SFGN for keeping the Florida law enforcers in check.  It seems we all need to look out for each other these days. Let's keep our government and officials in check and on their toes!
