Saucy Santana was shot yesterday, and police are investigating whether discrimination was involved in the crime.

According to Time, Saucy Santana was shot early Wednesday morning while in Miami, Florida. More specifically, the 4 a.m. drive-by shooting happened on an Interstate 95 entrance ramp. Satana was riding a Honda sedan with two others, after leaving a gentleman’s club, when a white Chevy sedan pulled up beside them. Someone within the car then started shooting and released six shots.

All three inhabitants of Santana’s car were injured. Santana and another man were shot in the arm. The third man and driver, identified as 27-year-old Justin Harris, was shot on his hand. The three later had their non-threatening injuries treated at the Aventura Hospital.

“I’m lucky and blessed to be alive,” Santana told Miami’s NBC 6.

Santana also shared the suspicion that he was targeted for the attack because of the “type of artist” that he is. The openly gay rapper has been gaining attention, both good and bad, for his music and personality. His music video for “Walk Em Like A Dog” has received more than 3 million views on YouTube and the artist was visiting South Florida to scout locations for new videos.

Authorities temporarily closed the entrance and exit ramps during the investigation. In addition, they are looking into the possibility of this attack being hate-based.
