GLAAD Media Award Nominees Honor Movies, TV, Music & More

The 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards nominees were announced this week from the Sundance Film Festival.

Pose star Mj Rodriguez and Nico Santos of Crazy Rich Asians announced nominations for 27 categories including film, television, journalism, music, comics and video games via live-stream from the Sundance Film Festival.

As previously announced, Bohemian Rhapsody was removed from consideration due to new allegations of sexual abuse by director Bryan Singer.

With BR out of contention, it seems like the coming-of-age, coming-out rom-com Love, Simon is the front-runner for ‘Outstanding Film – Wide Release,’ and we’re totally good with that.

In the ‘Outstanding Film – Limited Release’ category, excellent movies like Boy Erased, 1985, Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Disobedience snagged nominations.

Also glad to see that ‘conversion therapy’ movies The Miseducation of Cameron Post and Boy Erased earned nominations.

At this point, though, the oh-so-lauded The Favourite would seem to be the odds-on favorite to win.

Reading through the television nominations, it’s heartening to be reminded how much terrific LGBTQ-inclusive content there is on TV now like nominees Pose, Supergirl, Grey’s Anatomy, The Handmaid’s Tale, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Schitt’s Creek, and so many more.

Many fine nominees there, but with the largest LGBTQ cast and crew in television history, plus tremendous story-telling, we're going to have our fingers crossed for FX's Pose to take home the honor.

GLAAD also included Special Recognition Awards for TransMilitary, a Logo documentary chronicling the lives of trans military service members; and Nanette, a Netflix special starring out comedian Hannah Gadsby.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.

The ceremonies, which fund GLAAD's work to accelerate LGBTQ acceptance, will be held in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 28 at The Beverly Hilton, and in New York on Saturday, May 4 at the Hilton Midtown.
