Mark D. Latunski has been sent to a hospital after he was found unresponsive in jail.

The man who confessed to killing and cannibalizing his Grindr date over the past holiday season was found unresponsive around 5:10 pm last Tuesday at the Shiawassee County Jail. According to Shiwassee County Sheriff Brian BeGole, Latunski was found during a routine cell check and after refusing to eat.

“After using smelling salts (sic) he quickly came around and was transported to the hospital as a precaution,” BeGole said. “After being evaluated he was returned to the jail a short time later.”

According to the Detroit Free Press, Latunski has seemingly not been eating much since the prior Friday. That said, BeGole doesn’t believe the incident is drastic enough to be considered a hunger strike.

Latunski is currently in jail and under trial for the murder of 25-year-old hairstylist Kevin Bacon. The crime first started out as a hook up on Christmas Eve, but Bacon then went missing. His family reported him missing the next day after finding his car with his wallet, phone, and clothes inside.

During the investigation, local police found Bacon’s body in 50-year-old Latunski’s home. According to the Kansas City Star, Latunski later confessed to killing Bacon by stabbing him in the back and neck. According to police, Latunski also admitted to eating Bacon’s testicles.

Bacon’s death wasn’t Latunski’s first interaction with the police as well. A month before, police responded to a call at Latunski’s home after a bloodied man wearing a leather kilt ran away from the location. But while the man was questioned, no charges were made.

The trial continues. In the meantime, Latunski is back behind bars.
