Many of us leave the church for we feel we don't belong, we are not wanted, we are looked down upon. We lose faith in god or in God and some go as far as saying he / she / it does not exist.
For those of us that have left our faith, here's a great story of one of us that is making a difference.
Dennis Massenberg says that he used to be a "church hopper," someone who bounced from congregation to congregation—he stayed when things were good and he consented to the theology, before inevitably departing for somewhere else. For a long time, he believed that homosexuality could be changed, so he fervently denied his proclivities. Now, Massenberg is the pastor of a church that he started, one that is intent on accepting gay people and giving them a place to worship. "I'm preaching a gospel that's contrary to popular belief," he says in this moving documentary, Purpose in the Pulpit, by Carter McCall. "I became an activist." – theatlantic.com
Finding that place to worship and call home is something many of us look for. Congrats Dennis for no longer "hopping" and we applaud you for making a place for others to worship with you.
