We all know about the Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission fiasco in 2018 where the Supreme Court sided with Jack Phillips after he decided to refuse to bake a cake for a gay couple. He’s now being sued again for refusing to bake a cake in celebration of a coming out, according to LGBTQ Nation.
Autumn Scardina, a Colorado lawyer, called the Masterpiece Cakeshop to request a pink cake with blue icing in celebration of her coming out as transgender. Phillips, of course, didn’t like that and said that he doesn’t make cakes for “sex-changes.” This isn’t very surprising considering the fact that Phillips stopped making wedding cakes altogether when the Colorado Civil Rights Commission in 2017 said that Phillips had to start baking gay wedding cakes. Since I can’t read his mind I will just have to assume that he refused to bake the cake due to religious reasons. I may not know much about religion but I’m fairly certain that transgender people aren’t mentioned anywhere in the bible.
Scardina, who filed her own lawsuit, is being represented by attorneys Paula Greisen and John McHugh. In this lawsuit, Scardina claims that Phillips refused to “because she is transgender, despite repeatedly advertising that they would sell birthday cakes to the general public, including LGBT individuals.” In addition, Greisen said that it is important that the dignity of all Colorado citizens and since Jack Phillips refuses to serve cakes to transgender people even though he said that he will serve cakes to everyone, he is denying people their dignity.
I don’t know how this will pan out because the state of LGBTQ rights, although seemingly positive, is a bit dicey at times. I hope that Scardina and her team of lawyers get the justice that she deserves and that no LGBTQ people will have to go through this again.

The Bible is not silent on trans people. Remember that there were no such term as transgender when it was written. So lets see what Jesus is quoted as saying in Matthew 19:12
“For there are eunuchs who were born that way; others were made that way by men; and still others live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
