Janelle Monáe is teaching us about sex? Yes, please!
Netflix has recently released a five-part series in collaboration with Vox. The information series talks about the topic of sex from multiple angles and scientific factors. “From the biology of attraction to the history of birth control,” the series explains. And in fact, these short and informative episodes carry a series of topics from sexual fantasies, to attraction, birth control, and childbirth.
If you read that and then thought, “Well, why are we reading about it here?” Well, you wouldn’t be wrong. Truthfully, I looked into the series and it is primarily focused on straight relationships, sex, and sexuality. That said, there is the inclusion of gay sex and homosexuality within some of the earlier episodes. For instance, same-sex attraction is discussed during the attraction episode to show how attraction is more complex than the typical nature vs. nurture conversation.
In addition, the short series is narrated by singer and actress Janelle Monáe. Back in 2018, Monáe came out as queer. She then told Rolling Stone, “Being a queer black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf**ker.”
Monáe’s relationship with actress Tessa Thompson then became hotly discussed by fans and the media.
With that in mind, this new Netflix series is at least worthy of knowing about. And could prove worth the watch for Monáe fans, the scientifically minded, or those just lightly interested. If so, you can watch the series on Netflix right now!
