According to Deadline, Netflix has ordered eight episodes of a new comedy about a gay man with cerebral palsy.

The show, titled Special, will be written by, executive produced by, and star Ryan O’Connell. O’Connell is joined in the series by fellow actors Jessica Hecht, Punam Patel, Marla Mindelle, Augustus Prew and Patrick Fabian.

In addition, Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will be producing the series through his That’s Wonderful Productions company along with Warner Bros. Digital Networks’ Stage 13.

The Netflix series is based off of O’Connell’s novel I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves. The series version will be loosely based on O’Connell’s experience as a gay man with mild cerebral palsy. Things change, however, when his character decides to claim that he’s an accident victim in an attempt to rewrite his life.

This is the second gay series that Jim Parsons has announced working on since the start of Big Bang Theory’s final season. Back in September, it was announced that he was producing another comedy series based off of a true story.

In that case, The Inn Crowd about a gay couple running an popular inn within a conservative town. While the townspeople are not too happy about the innkeeprs themselves, they’ve become conflicted with the business the inn’s customers bring to them. That series is currently in production.

As for Special, it won’t be long until you can watch it air on Netflix on April 12.
