JR Pratts journey in publishing began in 1993 at Genre Magazine, where a chance opportunity blossomed into a lifelong passion. Once he realized his love of the industry, he sought to expand his horizons at Computer Technology Review Magazine, working under the pioneering leadership of the first black female publisher of USA Today. This experience proved invaluable, providing him with comprehensive insight into every facet of magazine publishing.
In 1997, Pratts took a bold step forward, co-founding Instinct Magazine with a group of close friends. Under his guidance as publisher, Instinct grew to become the largest gay magazine in the United States. Today, he continues to shape the publication’s digital presence at instinctmagazine.com, which he runs alongside his husband, managing editor and a talented team of writers.
Beyond his publishing work, Pratts has a love of travel and finds inspiration in exploring new cultures and destinations. At home, he’s a devoted dog lover, finding balance between his professional pursuits and personal passions.
