What originated as a film by former stripper Channing Tatum has become a strip and dance show sensation, and now it’s becoming a musical.

Back in 2013, Tatum shared on Twitter that he was working on getting Magic Mike to Broadway. Many, including us, forgot about that announcement as the years went by, but now it looks like Tatum’s work is finally paying off.

The actor and business man shared on Instagram a picture of the Magic Mike playbill. To caption the photo, Tatum shared that the show will make a world premiere at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston this November. Afterwards, the show will move to Broadway.

According to Broadway.com, the Boston production will start on November 30, 2019 and then end on January 5, 2020.

The story will be a prequel to the movie series and follow college-student-turned-male-entertainer Mike Lane. Mike is struggling with his finances and takes up a dancing job at a night club to help. He then tries to keep his work life a secret from his dad and girlfriend.

The musical’s score will be created by Tony and Pulitzer award winners Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. The book writer will be Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Riverdale), the director will be Trip Cullman who's fresh off of new Broadway hit Choir Boy, the choreographer is Camille A. Brown (Once on This Island), and, of course, Channing Tatum will be one of the producers.

In addition, a recent reading for the musical included a cast led by Matt Doyle, Derek Klena, Cheyenne Jackson, John Behlmann, Dyllón Burnside, Heath Calvert, Nick Rashad Burroughs and Ana Villafañe.

Said Tatum in a statement about the show:

"When we were shooting Magic Mike, I looked at myself in a thong and thought, 'Well, Chan, say goodbye to your career!' So the idea that seven years later a Pulitzer Prize-winning creative team would be making a full-fledged musical prequel is definitive proof that God loves strippers. I couldn't be more excited about the next chapter in the Magic Mike story. So get ready, Boston. The road to Broadway begins on November 30!"

Casting calls for the Boston production are impending, but tickets are available now.
