The anti-diversity hoard on Twitter has showed its ugly head again.

Last week, the news hit that Orange is the New Black actress Ruby Rose was cast as Batwoman.

Again, Ruby Rose was cast in the role very recently, and many were excited by her close resemblance to the comic book character. That said, many were not so pleased.

Dlisted reports that Ruby Rose began receiving hateful messages from people complaining that she wasn’t Jewish or a good enough actress. Then, some even dared to say she wasn’t gay enough.

This eventually led to Ruby Rose deleting her Twitter.

As Rose posted in her final tweet:

“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be Batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys. When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable… when we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey/ love a challenge I just wish women and the LGBT community supported each other more, My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other…Sending everyone my love and gratitude, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year, this month especially. I am looking forward to getting more than 4 hours of sleep and to break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects. If you need me, I’ll be on my Bat Phone.”

Right now, the character will only appear in a single episode of an Arrow-verse crossover for the CW tv channel. That said, CW hopes that the character will get her own spinoff series in the future.

But who is Batwoman? She’s a DC Comics character whose superhero name has been helmed by two different people. The Batwoman iteration that most know today belongs to Kate Kane who appeared in 2006.

Kate is of Jewish descent and a former military academy student who had to leave after it was discovered that she was gay (this was before the end of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell).

While she momentarily engaged in the party life and obtained several tattoos, a mugging (which she thwarted) caused her to cross paths with Batman. That then led her to consider the life of a vigilante and she took up the identity known as Batwoman.

Ruby Rose is set to appear as Batwoman in an upcoming Arrow-verse crossover. The date of which has not yet been announced.
