Last week People Magazine managed to once again trigger the start of the apocalypse by announcing their latest “Sexiest Man Alive.” This year the (somewhat) prestigious award went to handsome and charismatic crooner, John Legend. Whereas his many fans were totally cool with it, many others –mostly on Twitter, of course, let their disagreement with the choice be known.
Here’s the thing, the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ award is entirely subjective to the judges. It’s no different than titles such as Miss America, Miss Universe, The Most Beautiful Woman in The World, etc. These ‘honors’ really mean nothing, but I don’t say that in a disrespectful sense, but rather a mathematical one. There are nearly 8 billion people on the planet, so unless People Magazine meets all of them, the entire award is bogus anyway.
With the announcement of Legend as this year’s winner, the online insults began to fly immediately, and some were downright rude. Others, however, acknowledged John is a fantastic musician and seemingly a good guy, but they didn’t think of him as overtly sexy, let alone “The sexiest man alive.” I beg to differ.
Personally, I think John Legend is beautiful. He has a lovely, symmetrical face and very sexy eyes. His smile is dynamic, he has a great sense of humor and never takes himself too seriously. These are all traits of a hot man, in my opinion.
John is a different type of sexy, though, as he joins a list of past recipients who were more obvious choices for an award seemingly driven by the Hollywood Machine: Brad Pitt, Mathew McConney, and Hugh Jackman to name a few.
People’s “Sexiest man Alive” will always be a hit or miss for some people, which in itself is a beautiful thing really because we all are attracted to different physical types – and that’s ok. There will never be a unanimous sentiment here – although I think we came pretty close when People bestowed the ‘Sexiest Man’ honor upon Country Music star Blake Shelton. In that instance, it seemed the entire world in unison gave a resounding “NO MA’AM!”
As for John Legend, again, I think he’s gorgeous, talented, a devoted and loving husband and father, and an activist for equality. You really can’t get sexier than that … but if you do need further convincing, let me remind you of that time Chrissy Teigen posted a photo of her hubby’s beautiful bare butt on Instagram and Woooooo Baby! Boyfriend is serving up some serious, legendary booty!
He’s got my vote!
