Pop Icon Britney Spears to be Honored with GLAAD Vanguard Award!

As someone who grew up on pop icon Britney Spears (I was voted Most Obsessed in my 8th grade yearbook), it thrills me to know that she’s getting honored for her work as an incredible LGBTQ ally.

It was announced earlier today that GLAAD will be presenting her with its Vanguard Award during their 2018 Media Awards in Beverly Hills, California on April 12th.

The GLAAD Vanguard Award is presented to a member of the entertainment community who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for LGBT people.

Britney joins a line of incredibly allies who have won this award in the past, including Shirley MacLaine, Aaron Spelling, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato and most recently Patricia Arquette.

She has no doubt earned her status as a gay icon over her illustrious 20 year career, as she has stood with transgender youth, joined hands with Orlando during the horrific Pulse nightclub tragedy, participated in GLAAD’s Spirit Day in 2015 and countless other acts that make this an easy choice for this historic organization.

Britney is just as excited as the rest of us about getting this honor, as she tweeted about it earlier today.

Thanks Britney for all you’ve done, and congrats on your big honor!
