The executive producers of the animated comedy, Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin, TV Line that the show will be evolving for this next season, but of course still embrace its style of politically incorrectness.

“If you look at a show from 2005 or 2006 and put it side by side with a show from 2018 or 2019, they’re going to have a few differences,” Sulkin said. “Some of the things we felt comfortable saying and joking about back then, we now understand is not acceptable.” – deadline.com

Speaking to TVLine, the producers brought up the episode where Peter, as President Trump's latest press secretary tells the president that Family Guy has been "trying to phase out gay jokes," and the producers concurred that the show will be doing just that.

Times change, attitudes change, and jokes change.  Some people and topics were fair targets 20 years ago, but now, the comedy landscape is a little different.  Cultural changes are seen in comedy.  Looking back on 20, 15, or even shows 10 years ago, may they be Family Guy, Friends, Golden Girls, Hill Street Blues, you'll see some topics handled quite differently then than now, some were even addressed better then than now!

In this IGN Live producers talk about the past and future of Family Guy.  Around the 3:40 mark, they address one episode where Peter is injected with the "gay gene."  We'll add a clip of that episode after.

We don't expect Family Guy to lay off the buffoonery, pointing out the stupidity, hypocrocity, and nonsense that occurs in 2019 and beyond.  But do you agree with their shift that gay jokes should be off the table? If we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at? Are they going to stop racist jokes? disability jokes? Why are we getting off the hook so easily? Sometimes humor is education, too.

If we can't laugh at ourselves…
