Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Netflix Original series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
The Halloween season may be over (and many are already getting their Christmas stockings ready), but it’s not too late to appreciate a great queer character who graced our screens this past holiday.
One of the most talked about series in the past few weeks is The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which is a darker take on the same teenage witch we all knew back in the ‘90s.
This version is based off of the 2014 comic series, which set out to depict the classic comic book character with a darker lens. This Sabrina is no longer quipping witty puns, but dropping hexes, hanging out with demons, and fighting Satan.
But it’s not that witch that we were surprised and delighted by. In fact, it was her cousin.
Ambrose Spellman (played by newcomer Chance Perdomo) is a boss witch among boss witches, but he’s one for us LGBTQ viewers to love and adore. Serving house arrest at the Spellman house, Ambrose takes on many of the roles that Salem did in the first tv series. He’s a witty confidant and friend who supports Sabrina any way he can.
After watching the first season of CHAOS, we are in love with Ambrose. And here’s a list of 5 reasons why.
1. He's Cool, Witty, And Supportive
First off, Ambrose is chill AF. A man who can lay across any surface imaginable with ease and grace deserves that title.
Every ounce of Perdomo’s performance was directed towards presenting Ambrose as a calm and cool personality who’d easily fit in at the swankiest of parties. The man just exudes silk.
On top of that, he is a wit master and would give Teenage Witch Salem a run for his money. Just imagine a joke-off between the two. We’d pay to see it.
And then, of course, Ambrose exhibits unwavering support for his cousin throughout the series (excluding one moment in which she greatly deserved the cold shoulder).
Ambrose supported her immediately after the disastrous outing in the woods, he unquestioningly offered her spells when she needed them, and he even casted a spell or two for her sake.
Ambrose is a ride-or-die witch.
2. His Stable Relationship
On top of that, he is a part of the most stable and healthy relationship in the first season.
While Sabrina and Harvey are cute in a teenage dream kind of way, Ambrose and Luke are both church fan waving hot and cavity-inducing sweet.
While the men start out as just a hookup, they realize that there’s more going on between them. They start to date and keep at it despite a bad experience. (Of course, with help from Aunt Hilda).
Then as other relationships fell by the wayside, good ol’ Ambrose and Luke stayed together till the end. In fact, they even confessed their love for each other by the end of the season.
While the Hilda involvement leaves some concern about the legitimacy of the relationship, there’s no mistaking fan love and loyalty towards the two.
3. He's Pansexual Representation
On top of that, the two are open to playing around with other people.
In case you missed it, episode 7 included quite the telling scene about Ambrose and his relationship with Luke. One scene found Ambrose ogling Sabrina’s frenemy Prudence. Then later, he’s seen engaging in an orgy with her and several others (including Luke).
Not only does this episode reveal that Ambrose and Luke are open to experimenting with others, but this also revealed that Ambrose is attracted to men and women.
While the series never defines or label’s Amrbose’s sexuality, it was revealed outside of the show that Ambrose is pansexual.
This ultimately creates visibility and representation for bisexual and pansexual people. Viewers who connect with those labels will be (or already are) delighted.
4. He’s Just Hot
But let’s just face it, Ambrose Spellman and Chance Perdomo are just hot.
From his cool persona to his revealing clothes, Ambrose excludes sex appeal. Thankfully, he gets to also express his sexuality through a few sex scenes in the first season. And he also gets to show off his sexy self without a shirt.
While The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Spellman doesn’t show off man meat as much as Riverdale does (though it does try), Ambrose is the buoy that keeps the show afloat. (And bless him for it).
5. He's An Independent Man
Lastly, one thing this series does wonderfully is create a true purpose for each character. No character is existing for the mere sake of existing. Even Harvey Kinkle has more of a purpose and pull in the story as the first season goes on.
While Ambrose Spellman is locked up in the Spellman household, he continues to have his own agenda and personal storyline. That splits (and sometimes intersects) between getting himself out of house arrest and his romance with Luke.
On top of that, the second season of CHAOS will probably see an evolution of those two storylines. Was Hilda’s love potion a toxic act to their relationship? Is Luke involved with this witch hunter from the first quarter of season one? Season two may explore those Luke-themed storylines.
In addition, the end of the first season showed Ambrose being accepted into the male driven witch’s (or warlock if you’re in the boat that doesn’t consider “witch” to be non-gender specific) inner circle. His clear discomfort in that group will obviously be explored in later seasons.
All of these story branches have nothing to do with Sabrina and show just how independent the character is of the show’s main character, which is pretty cool.
Over all, we love Ambrose Spellman and Chance Perdomo. He’s cool, supportive, sexy, independent, and representative. We love all the facets of Ambrose and we hope to see more in season 2 of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Great article, though I couldn't get into the series, as I was expecting something closer to Riverdale. And FYI, "cavity inducing" should actually have a hyphen, as in cavity-inducing.
