Anti-LGBT Heckler Gets A Piece of Armie Hammer’s Mind

I didn’t really think it was possible for Armie Hammer to be more appealing than he already was. Did you see his performance in Sorry to Bother You? OMFG.

Anyway, apparently I was wrong. Hammer has just endeared himself to me and the LGBTQ+ community at large via a shutdown of an anti-trans heckler at his current Broadway show.

Some lady and her husband either took the title of the play Straight White Men at face value, or they were looking for trouble. The play is a satire about privilege. It’s now playing at the Helen Hayes Theater in NYC.

The show opens with trans activist Kate Bornstein taking the stage and addressing the audience: “Good evening, ladies, gentlemen, and the rest of us.”

This is when the female heckler shouted, “You’re not welcome here!” Then she and her husband booed loudly, obviously disrupting the performance.

Bornstein tweeted a thoughtful response to the event and aftermath on Facebook following the performance:

“It’s true what people are saying: a woman, in response to my opening line of the show, ’Good evening, ladies, gentlemen, and the rest of us,’ called out from the audience, ’You’re not welcome here.’ She could not have been more wrong.”

“Look, Straight White Men is a great work of art. And great art does upset people. It happens all the time. Please know that I’m not upset, or afraid. I’m more than ever proud to be part of this show.”

Hammer took to Twitter after the show, saying:

“To the woman in our audience who felt it was appropriate to yell, ‘You’re not welcome here!’ at Kate Bornstein, our beloved friend, co-worker, and now family member….. feel free never to come back.”

Hammer’s co-star Josh Charles was even more bold, tweeting, “Also feel free to go fuck yourself lady.”

Hammer later corresponded with audience members on social media to get the hecklers’ seat numbers, stating he’d report them to theater officials.

Straight White Men runs through Sept. 9 at the Hayes Theater in NYC.

  2. I don’t understand why anyone

I don't understand why anyone would pay Broadway prices for a couple of tickets to a show that would offend them.

  3. I’m not sure I’d label all

I’m not sure I’d label all conservatives and Republicans as rude, violent, dangerous, and very disruptive. As a politically involved Democrat, we have our share too. The problem is that our president gives these idiots a voice. Many comedians, hosts, and the like have started shows with “Welcome ladies, gentlemen, and everyone else” though not in this context and it is meant to be a joke meaning you’re not classy. It’s one of the oldest first lines in the book. These idiots just wanted to be disruptive. I have no idea if the show is a success or in the past had empty seats, but chances are this disruption will make sure the run is sold out.

Not surprising. Conservatives and Republicans are rude, violent, dangerous and very disruptive.

    • Couldn’t agree more. They are

Couldn't agree more. They are some of the rudest people in the world. The white Christian, conservative community are some of the most intolerant people period. Just look at Jeff Sessions or our so called president, you will know exactly what I am talking about.
