With how wildly successful ‘Call Me By Your Name’ has been this year, you’d think a sequel would be a no brainier. However, James Ivory, the screenwriter for the movie has revealed doubts that a sequel will ever be made.

The movie follows a love story between Oliver and Elio (played by Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalet), And received critical acclaim, and was nominated for four academy awards, including best picture.

However, backstage at the BAFTA awards, Ivory said “I heard about it. I don’t know how you could make such sequels if they’re far in the future.”

He continued: “It’s not possible to make Timothée [Chalamet] look likes he’s 40. All the make-up in the world and the rest of it and changing voice is not going to do it. I don’t know how.

“No one has contacted me. You have to think, ‘What does André Aciman think about that?’ It’s his creation. No one seems to know how he feels about it.”

But there is still hope, as director Luca Guadagnino has repeatedly spoke of plans of a sequel in several interviews.

Speaking to The Guardian, the director said: “These characters are so fantastic, and I want to know what happens to them. The last 40 pages of the book tell you about 20 years in the life of Oliver and Elio.”

I want a sequel. Come On!! At first I didn't want it but after Luca and Aciman got our Hopes Up I got quite excited.  This is so unfair if they don't make one.
