Mr. Berlanti's experience as a member of the LGBTQ+ community has led to more inclusive characters on the CW such as a lesbian character on Supergirl and an interracial couple on The Flash. Last month at Comic-Con, CW announced they had cast television's first transgender superhero with Nicole Maines on Supergirl. Today, news broke that the CW has cast Ruby Rose as Batwoman and that the character will be an out lesbian; this decision marks a monumental moment in television history.

Since news of the announcement, producers have revealed they were seeking a lesbian actress and were happy to cast Ruby Rose who has been an out lesbian since the age of 12. The episode is set to be a crossover within the CW television Arrow-verse with hopes of a spinoff series for the character. The Vampire Diaries' Caroline Dries who is also an out lesbian is set to write the script.

Ruby Rose can be seen in Warner Brothers' upcoming movie, The Meg.
