Deadline reports that McGregor will star in a limited tv series produced by Legendary Television. The show titled Simply Halston is about the rise and fall of the first American celebrity fashion designer who also happened to be gay.

Specifically, Halston (born Roy Halston Frowick) started his career after designing the pillbox hat Jackie Kennedy wore to her husband’s 1961 presidential inauguration. From there, the fashion star gained many celebrity clients such as Anjelica Huston, Lauren Bacall, Margaux Hemingway, Elizabeth Taylor, Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli. He even designed uniforms for the U.S. Olympic team, the Girll Scouts, and the NYPD.

Halston grew a brand of fashion around his singular name and controlled the fashion world during the 1970s and ‘80’s. Unfortunately, his company was later lost in a hostile take over.

Later, Halston, who had a longtime lover in Colombian window dresser Victor Hugo, died in 1990 from AIDS-related complications. He died at the age of 57.

The limited tv series will be written by The Affair’s Sharr White and directed by Dan Minahan (from American Crime Story). On top of that, McGregor, White, and Minahan will all be executive producers while Killer Films will produce.

The series is based off of a 1991 biography, of the same name, by Steven Gaines. There is currently no word on when the show will hit tv screens.
