EXCLUSIVE! Brad Goreski Talks RuPaul, Valerie Cherish and Fall Fashion Advice

I’ve been a major fan of celebrity fashion stylist Brad Goreski for several years now, dating back to his time on The Rachel Zoe Project ten years ago. His effervescent personality captivated audiences of the show, so much so that got his own spinoff series called It’s a Brad, Brad World and earning himself a spot on E!’s long-running series Fashion Police beginning in 2015.

The 41-year-old was on hand at RuPaul’s DragCon NYC over the weekend, which makes perfect sense given what’s going on in his career right now. His new World of Wonder series, Iconic, takes Drag Race’s millions of viewers on a style journey with some of the show’s most stylish queens (notably season 7 winner Violet Chachki), where they look back at their fashion evolution and who their most major influences were and are.

He chatted with Instinct exclusively while at DragCon about several other topics outside his new show including his time on The Rachel Zoe Project, what his true thoughts are on his former frenemy Taylor from that series, being on Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback and his best fall fashion advice.

Please tell me more about this fabulous ensemble you are wearing today!

Want to know what I’m serving? These are Louboutin. These are my favorite pants from Zara. This blazer I found in my basement in storage while we were cleaning out getting to move. I wore it to a Tommy Hilfiger fashion show like five years ago. She’s back.

I have been a fan of yours since The Rachel Zoe Project many years ago. Spill the tea… was Taylor really that awful?

Yes. She was. But Taylor and I are still really good friends.

She’s better now?

No (giggles). That was like such a moment in time. I think what people also forget, because it’s a television show, is that we were actually doing jobs and I was actually brand new and we were actually super, super busy. So she was trying to train me while there were cameras all around us and we didn’t know what the show was going to be so she had literally a lot on her plate. It made for great TV and it gave me the training wheels I needed.

You also appeared on one of my favorite television shows of all time, The Comeback. How did you get involved in being part of it?

I was a very vocal fan of the show in the first season and Michael Patrick King is a friend of my husband’s and myself, and Dan Bucatinsky, who’s a producer on the show and writing partners with Lisa Kudrow called me and was like “We have this crazy idea. Valerie Cherish is going to ask you to be her stylist, would you do it?” I cried after, one of the best and most fun things I’ve ever done.

I knew Lisa as Lisa Kudrow, but I’ve never met her as Valerie Cherish so when we were filming, and the first scene we did was her walking into my studio and saying, “It’s Brad Goreski!” and I fucking died. It was amazing.

I also never connected that RuPaul saying “Hello, Hello, Hello!” at the beginning of every Drag Race episode was really an homage to Valerie.

Well Valerie Cherish is kind of the ultimate drag queen, right?

Biggest fashion advice for the fall season?
