The events in Dallas are still sinking in for many of us, but for one of our fellow LGBTers, it may be a long time before recovery will occur.  Jesus Retana was one of the officers shot in Dallas.  Here is the report from thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

A gay police officer was among those wounded in a shooting that left five of his colleagues dead on Thursday night in Dallas.

Jesus Retana, 39, has worked for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) for the last 10 years.

Retana, above left, is pictured with his husband, Andrew Moss. Moss was behind an effort to get DART to add insurance benefits for same-sex partners that began in 2012.

Retana and Moss were married in 2008 in California. Moss, also a former DART police officer, left law enforcement in 2010 due to health problems.

DART finally added same-sex partner benefits in 2013.

Rafael McDonnell, communications and advocacy manager for Resource Center, Dallas' LGBT community center, worked closely with Moss on the same-sex benefits initiative. McDonnell said Retana was recovering at home with Moss on Friday, but they are concerned for their safety and do not wish to be interviewed.

The Dallas Morning News is profiling all 12 officers as information becomes available.

Retana has changed his Facebook profile picture to one of Brent Thompson, one of his fallen fellow cops.  As many cops, he was there to protect and serve and even now, by changing his picture, he is thinking of others.

We wish you a fast and healthy recovery Jesus, both physically and mentally.
