Here are Our ‘Gay’ Golden Globe Predictions, Hunties.

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will be held live tonight at 8:00 PM EST on NBC.  Women and the LGBTQ community will be turning in to see not only who won what, but who wore what and who spoke what as well (we're looking at you, new host Seth Meyers).

LGBTQ films and television shows have earned multiple nominations at the Golden Globes this year, which would be a big moment for our community as well as continued momentum given how Moonlight won for Best Picture: Drama last year.

Let's go over the categories for which LGBTQ characters or movies are nominated, and see how likely they are to win in each.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama:
Timothée Chalamet, “Call Me by Your Name”
Daniel Day-Lewis, “Phantom Thread”
Tom Hanks, “The Post”
Gary Oldman, “Darkest Hour”
Denzel Washington, “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”

As much as I would love to see Timothée Chalamet take home this award for his portrayal of Ello in Call Me by Your Name, it looks like this is Gary Oldman's year to win.  His portrayal of Winston Churchill has him at the top of all the critics and experts lists to win this year, as Timothée may be still a bit young to win, especially given that he's up against three other men who have won this award multiple times in the past.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy:
Judi Dench, “Victoria & Abdul”
Helen Mirren, “The Leisure Seeker”
Margot Robbie, “I, Tonya”
Saoirse Ronan, “Lady Bird”
Emma Stone, “Battle of the Sexes”

Although Emma Stone was the belle of the ball last year for her work in La La Land (which earned her a Golden Globe in this category), her portrayal of out and proud Billie Jean King won't win her a second trophy this year.  That looks to be going to Saoirse Ronan in the critically acclaimed Lady Bird, who has also been listed as the odds on favorite to win.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture:
Willem Dafoe, “The Florida Project”
Armie Hammer, “Call Me by Your Name”
Richard Jenkins, “The Shape of Water”
Christopher Plummer, “All the Money in the World”
Sam Rockwell, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”

Armie could pull in an upset, given just how much press he has particularly gotten for his role in CMBYN.  Experts are split, however, between Willem and Christopher for this, although Sam should definitely be considered as his role in Three Billboards was brutal from start to finish.

Best Television Series – Comedy:
“Black-ish”
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
“Master of None”
“SMILF”
“Will & Grace”

Will & Grace has been nominated for a bazillion Golden Globes, but has never won a single trophy from them, although they were Emmy darlings for several years.  The show being nominated was a bit of a surprise given their history with the show, but we are ecstatic to see them on the list.  That being said, two out of the five shows are brand new, and we know how the Golden Globes loves awarding new shows one year and then forgetting them the next.  I think they have a good shot at winning, although the odds on favorite this year is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which currently sits at number one on GoldDerby where as W&G stands at number 2.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy:
Anthony Anderson, “Black-ish”
Aziz Ansari, “Master of None”
Kevin Bacon, “I Love Dick”
William H. Macy, “Shameless”
Eric McCormack, “Will and Grace”

Eric was the only one out of the four to get a nomination this year, which is shocking given how all four of them really put out some hilarious comedy and heartfelt moments in the series return. Eric, is the odds on favorite at the moment, and it would be triumphant for him to win in this category.  However, as stated before, The Golden Globes love new things.  Kevin's show is brand new.  He could pull off an upset, but man it would be great if Eric did win.
