Paul McCartney Reflects on Group Masturbation With John Lennon, Other Male Friends

We’re not the first to make a “Come Together” joke, and we won’t be the last.

76-year-old god of pop/rock Paul McCartney recently sat down with GQ for a cover story. It’s a lengthy, characteristically charming and frank interview.

There’s one part in particular that’s really caught our attention, though:

McCartney says that in the early days of the Beatles, he was part of a group masturbation session at John Lennon’s place. He estimates there about five young guys in the group, including Lennon.

"And instead of just getting roaring drunk and partying — I don't even know if we were staying over or anything — we were all just in these chairs, and the lights were out, and somebody started masturbating, so we all did.”

The friends would shout out names of sexy female stars of the day like Brigitte Bardot to get the blood flowing, so to speak.

“We were just, ‘Brigitte Bardot! Whoo!’ And then everyone would thrash a bit more,” he said,

McCartney says Lennon playfully interjected with “Winston Churchill” to kill the mood. Punk’d!

“I think it was a one-off. Or maybe it was like a two-off. It wasn’t a big thing. But, you know, it was just the kind of thing you didn’t think much of. It was just a group. Yeah, it’s quite raunchy when you think about it. There’s so many things like that from when you’re a kid that you look back on and you’re, ‘Did we do that?’ But it was good, harmless fun. It didn’t hurt anyone. Not even Brigitte Bardot.”

In the interview, McCartney also says he applauded George Harrison right after he lost his virginity. It’s not all sex stuff, either. He also breaks down some of his most famous songs, he dishes on working with Kanye West and he talks about his dedication to animal welfare.

McCartney is going on tour in 2019 for his new album Egypt Station.

This writer saw McCartney live in 2014 at Dodgers Stadium. He played for three hours and fifteen minutes without a break. Maybe he had that kind of stamina during these group j/o sessions?
