Porn star August Ames has passed away at the age of 23. The news comes only days after she found herself in a social media dispute over her refusal to work with men who have done gay porn.

According to AVN, she passed away on Tuesday.

"She was the kindest person I ever knew and she meant the world to me," said her husband, director Kevin Moore. "Please leave this as a private family matter in this difficult time."

A native of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, Ames was a two-time AVN Award-winner with more than 270 credits since her debut in 2013. Her body of work included multiple performances for just about every major studio in adult entertainment. Sought after from the beginning of her career, Ames earned a nomination in 2015 for AVN Best New Starlet, and was a nominee every year since for Female Performer of the Year, including this year for the upcoming 2018 AVN Awards in January.

The adult industry was in shock upon hearing the news Wednesday as several industry members took to Twitter to offer condolences.

“Rest In Peace to August Ames, one of the best, nicest people I ever knew in the business,” producer/director Jules Jordan tweeted.

Social media today has come out in support of August after her passing, blaming the ones who went after her for her original comments that were deemed homophobic.

  1. Y’all are freaking idiots,
Y’all are freaking idiots, what she said wasn’t homophobic…. Gay pornstars do not follow the same testing protocol as straight pornstars because they just use condoms. How about you SJW pieces of crap learn what the hell you are talking about!

    • You should check your facts

You should check your facts before you speak. Most major porn studios are subject to several laws regarding health and sanitation depending on what countries they’re based in. Not company policies. Laws. Trust, they pay attention. A large gay porn studio went into total freak out last year when one star showed an std in a screening. So your heteroflexing over the passing of that young woman is ignorant. Her death is a terrible loss for the people who care for her. It doesn’t detract from the miseducation of the statement she initially made.

      • Who was demanding sex from

Who was demanding sex from her anyway? She was not called out for refusing to have sex with a certain man; she was called out on the ill-intended nature of her first tweet and attitude.

  3. I followed the fuss on

I followed the fuss on twitter after reading about the controversy on this site.

From what I read, her comments and attitude were indeed homophobic; there was some air of superiority coming from her as if she felt superior to men who perform in gay porn throwing the stigma that literally men who perform in gay for have HIV/AIDS by default. The people who responded to her comments felt she was spreading stigma.

Of course and as expected, now some men are using, abusing and manipulating her death to justify their homophobia and blame her death on LGBT people.

She was never forced to have sex with gay porn actors nor did anybody suggested she had to have sex with them. It is important to clarify this because this is the false argument homophobes  are using to justify their homophobia and blame LGBT people on her passing. She was called out on her homophobic comments and attitude, how she was spreading stigma and misinformation. It was a heated discussion about prejudice and stigma.

If she took her own life it is pretty clear her mental health was not OK from the beginning before the controversy started after her comments; I also read she actually suffered from depression. She had little to no capacity to take criticism and probably this discussion was the last drop that spilt the cup of tea.

I find it unfair to blame LGBT for her death because she was not driven to such thing; she was called out on her prejudices; she was not told to kill her self. It was an argument among individuals about prejudices not an "LGBT community" vs Her battle.

It is sad she took her life but it is important to dismiss the claim made by homophobes who only care about legitimising their homophobia be manipulating her death.

    • By the way, gay men don’t

By the way, gay men don't have sex with women; gay men don't lust after women nor do they desire to have sex with them. Men in gay porn are most likely bisexual and it is not that they wanted to have sex with her; they, the men in gay porn felt stigmatised with HIV/AIDS by her comments.
