The new show will be in Spanish and be called El Corazón Nunca Se Equivoca or The Heart is Never Wrong. It will be a spinoff of the Mexican telenovela Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia or My Husband Has More Family.

The show’s story will follow the love and daily struggles of the popular gay couple from Mi Marido, Cuauhtémoc or Temo (Joaquín Bondoni) and Aristóteles (Emilio Osorio) who have been given the ship name Aristemo. The boys are so famous, on and off the screen, that they won ENews’s Tv’s Top Couple award.

Telenovela fans have already shared their excitement about the series announcement and the award win.

While LGBTQ characters have appeared in telenovelas before, this is the first time that a telenovela will feature gay characters as the leads. It seems Univision is committed to representing LGBTQ stories and characters as the free-to-air Spanish-language tv network depicted a gay marriage in Amores Veradaderos back in 2013. The channel has also included LGBTQ characters on several shows such as One Day At A Time, Vida, Amar a Muerte, and Casa de Las Flores.

As for El Corazón Nunca Se Equivoca, the announcement has only just been made, so there’s no word on its airdate just yet. That said, the show will be filmed in Mexico and available to watch in the U.S. whenever the series drops on tv.

We’ll be watching this historic moment in television and Latinx entertainment. Will you?
