Thousands of LGBTQ people have been living in fear in countries like Iraq and Syria due to the presence of the homophobic and anti-LGBTQ group ISIS.

That said, US forces in Iraq have captured an ISIS member notorious for murdering LGBTQ people.

The man in question is named Abu Omer and was a senior executioner known for the alias “White Beard.” Omer controlled the Iraqi city of Mosul until last year when security forces won it back from his power.

Despite city now crawling with his enemies, Omer chose to stay and hide out in a safe house within.

As The Times reports, Omer was recently found and captured on January 1.

Unfortunately, even if Omer has been found, the terrorist group ISIS is still strong and gay men are being murdered constantly in cities under their control.

As US Lieutenant General Paul Funk stated, the city of Mosul and the country of Iraq are still volatile and at the mercy of an unbalanced power struggle.

“The conditions remain present for Daesh to return, and only through coalition and international efforts can the defeat become permanent.”

  1. What kind of just will be

What kind of just will be done upon him?

Let's just don't forget that this does not make Iraqi society any less homophobic than this horrible depicable psychopath.

Let's hope Iraq and all the Middle East can soon abandon religion and become secular societies.
