See Indiana Queen’s NSFW Video Shaking Up Country Music

There's a little buzz in the country music world caused by a new video from an alternative country band Indiana Queen.

[The band] is being lauded for their sexually explicit music video for "I Don't Know What to Do," the latest single off their upcoming sophomore album. Though the band's leader Kevin Thornton is openly gay, the video features two other men who are a real couple from Nashville.

"The song is about those times when you are feeling the sexy magic and the other person isn't," Thornton told The Huffington Post. "My initial inspiration for the video was film noir cowboy and horse fantasy … [My friends] brought so much chemistry it morphed into something else, but I really love the end result." – www.cosmopolitan.com

A cowboy and horse fantasy? I'm not sure I want to know more about that inspiration.  Well, here's the video.  Watch and see what you think.

The Advocate calls the video, which features the men kissing and having sex, "genre-defying," elaborating that cowboy-on-cowboy sex is "not typically seen in the conservative music genre."

Comments on the video have been overwhelmingly positive, ranging from "yay love" to "great song" to the inevitable "yay love is great but nudity is bad!"

Not mentioned anywhere is how patriotic the whole thing feels. Cowboy hats on prairie scenes on country music? This whole thing's inarguably American AF. Enjoy! – www.cosmopolitan.com

So, I guess I missed the sex part.  Cosmopolitan, a magazine that should know about sex, titled its article on the music video craze "People Are Delighted by This NSFW Country Music Video Featuring 2 Cowboys Having Sex."  I see one guy's bare bum three times and for not that long of a period of time, but I think there was just cuddling and kissing going on. Maybe I missed something.

It's a good song with a pretty okay video.  I guess I don't see the WOW factor in it,  But then again, it is country music so I guess showing a man in a harness would have been groundbreaking enough.  And maybe that is a good point.  We don't see it as shocking to have two men kissing and a couple or three crack shots. I think we were more offended and shocked at Kim K's Paper Magazine cover.  My how we all differ.

What are your thoughts Instincters?

  1. O.o  This is horrible.  3

O.o  This is horrible.  3 seconds in I thought I was watching a parody.  My second thought was LOL.  My third thought was: This must have been made by a straight dude.  I don't want to discourage gay visibility in mainstream culture, media, and music, but I also think when it does happen it should be of far better quality than this.  As it is representative of the gay community.  The video is obviously very low budget, low quality, and with bad acting.  The music is better than the video, but still bad.  As far as shock value goes…no.  Nicki Minaj's remake of Anaconda was more sexual than this, but were we shocked…please!?!  I was only shocked by how poorly made the video was.  Teenage Youtubers make better music videos than this.

  3. Seriously? We’ve all become

Seriously? We've all become so heteronormative that we're complaining about male nudity? I'm NOT a country music guy, but Kevin Thornton's voice is exquisite, and the visuals for this song are beautiful. Maybe some of you would be more comfortable on the Million Moms website…

    • Really? It was no more sexual

Really? It was no more sexual than many "heterosexual" videos. I thought it was beautiful and although I'm no country fan, I loved the song.

  5. I agree with Franc, although

I agree with Franc, although I didn't really care for the bass line in the song.  Seems that the visuals are gratuitous and unnesessary.  Bordering on exploitative.
