We're just going to start right off with the video.
Both Rylan and co-host Matt Edmondson – who were asking the judges to pick a door to choose which caller would then ask a question – were taken aback by the comment, as were Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger. – mirror.co.uk
Rylan has responded publicly about the incident insisting it was a "joke between friends". He was quick with his comeback that night to Cowell's joke on live television when he said, "Oh Simon … do you want me to show you how much I like the back door?"
The female judges then said "naughty naughty," before Rylan added "I'll get over it."
”I apologise. I shouldn’t have said that – sorry, sorry, sorry,” said a red-faced SImon.
Cowell then mumbled: "We're never doing live TV again." – mirror.co.uk
Of course Twitter is where everyone goes to air their dirty laundry and to respond to life. Rylan Tweeted on Sunday afternoon reiterating that it was taken as a "lighthearted" joke.
Is it time to say lighten up people? If this were said on the Graham Norton Show or Dame Edna or it would have been fine, but then again, those audience would probably be more prepared and use to hearing quick little gay jokes. But apparently there hasn't been much backlash from Simon's comment, well at least not yet. I think most are taking it as what Rylan has said, a joke between friends. Has mainstream become okay with gay sexuality?
In the attitude.co.uk report on this incident which apparently did not take place on X Factor, but …
The audience of the Xtra Factor were shocked last night as one of the judges made a gay joke about Rylan Clark-Neal. Xtra Factor is known for being more relaxed and chilled then its parent program, X Factor, but sometimes this goes a little too far. Last night, Xtra Factor fans were unsettled when Simon Cowell possibly took things a little too far with the host of the show. – attitude.co.uk
You can head over to either mirror.co.uk or attitude.co.uk and see some of the tweets they collected and see that none of them are really upset with Cowell, but just a little shocked.
So is there a story here?
If there is, it's Simon Cowell getting a slap on the hand for saying something a little racy on live television.
Or is the story that gay butt sex is no longer a disgusting unacceptable act practiced by degenerates and outcasts, but instead something that might be worthy of an inclusive laugh track?
Or is this just gay men being the butt of a joke and we should be offended?

Why would people get so
Why would people get so offended? It's just a stupid little joke which Cowell apologized for immediately. Didn't bother or offend me.
