We haven't heard much about what's going on in Chechnya in the past few weeks, but VICE News was working towards finding that out for us.
VICE went to Chechnya themselves and got a (guided) tour of one of the detention centers rumored to hold the captured gay men in the country.
They even got to talk to Ayub Kataev, the warden for the center and the head of the ministry’s internal affairs.
Kataev denied the existence of gay men in the country and that the location, which looked abandoned, was ever a location for the rumored torturing.
That said, VICE was able to get in touch with a man who fled the country. He said that he's 200% sure he was taken to that exact location.
