#tbt – A Judy Garland Performance I’d Never Seen. New Meaning To “SOTR”

Friends of Dorothy we are.  Rainbow fans, too.  But I am surprised someone hasn't taken my gay card for never seeing this performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow by the one and only Judy Garland.  So when i found this, I thought this has to be one of the biggest gayest Throw Back Thursday (#tbt) items I've ever seen.

Judy Garland only performed "Over The Rainbow" twice during her many television appearances, which spanned 14 years. She performed it on her first TV Special, "Ford Star Jubilee" in the episode called "The Judy Garland Special" in 1955, and sang it to her children on The Christmas Edition of her weekly TV show "The Judy Garland Show" (1963).

Here Judy is dressed up as the tramp character she played when doing a duet with Fred Astaire in the film 'Easter Parade'.

Judy sings the song so sad and mournfully here it makes me cry, and it makes Judy cry too. We can only wonder what she was thinking about that got her so upset. Perhaps she was thinking about how different her life was compared to the song's lyrics. It's very upsetting. I love you Judy. – youtube.com

I've watched this three times already and have bookmarked the video.  It's pretty powerful especially if you know what Judy went through personally, emotionally, health wise.

  1. This is untrue. Garland also

This is untrue. Garland also sang "Over the Rainbow" on The Mike Douglas Show in 1968.
