23-year-old singer and drag queen Pabllo Vittar has found herself at the center of political discourse, and she couldn’t be happier.
According to Buzzfeed News, Vittar has become a major voice against the political unrest happening in Brazil.
Pabllo Vittar walked through the doorway to fame in 2015 after posting a cover of Major Lazer’s “Lean On.” Afterwards, she solidified her popularity by showing up in one of Major Lazer’s videos alongside Diplo and Brazilian singer Anitta.
Now, Vittar is using the spotlight to talk about Brazilian politics and specifically about women's rights, LGBTQ rights, and the #EleNão (#NotHim) movement against the country’s extremely conservative leader Jair Bolsonaro.
Bolsonaro has made several sexist, racist, and homophobic comments in the past such as saying women weren’t worthy of equal pay and implying that he would kill his son if he turned out to be gay.
In response to this, Pabllo Vittar has repeatedly expressed distaste for Bolsonaro and support for the #EleNão movement.
As political rest continues throughout several countries, it’s great to see that drag queens are raising their voices all over the world.
