Broadway stars frequently move to releasing their own original music after star winning turns on the Great White Way, and Tony winner Ben Platt is no exception. After a sensational turn in "Dear Evan Hansen", Platt has spent time working on his debut album, appropriately titled "Sing To Me Instead". Releasing the first two songs from the album this morning, Platt is sharing his most innermost feelings through music, which ironically is how many of us fell in love with him on stage to begin with.
The roll out for "Sing To Me Instead" has shown Plattt on social media at his most raw and unflinchingly honest, sprinkling both what we can assume are song lyrics from upcoming songs ("you came out of nowhere and you cut through all the noise") along with several tweets where Platt is letting his fans know of the utmost appreciation for allowing him to come into their lives through his music, and how doing so is, as Platt puts it, "deeply terrifying and even more so, wonderfully exciting".
"Bad Habit" takes Platt into a piano driven direction, and serves as an achingly lush love song to someone he loves, but clearly does not want to at times. With both soaring vocals and a grittier and grown up "post Evan Hansen" vibe at others "Bad Habit" will both appeal to his rabid Broadway fanatics, but will also bring his stunning vocals to a whole new audience. Check it out here:
"Ease My Mind" is Platt demonstrating an R&B style vibe, again a piano driven track, but with tinges of gospel and a touch of acoustic. "Ease My Mind" is pure in the best sense of the word, putting Platt and the masterful emotion he is putting into the track front and center. Check out "Ease My Mind" here;

While Platt will receive the natural comparisons to his fellow Broadway brethren releasing solo albums, this blissfully formed package of songs is the perfect next step for this dynamic performer on the sure to be storied road of his career.
