Fall is only a couple of weeks away which means cute sweater options, cold weather and the emergence of Pumpkin Spice Latte’s will be on the rise.
The summer is a great time to travel, of course, but fall has always been my favorite season to get out of my local environment and try something new.
In this week’s edition of Travel Thursday, I’ll be taking you inside three amazing places that are worth the visit this fall. All are located on the east coast of the United States, where I’m from, so maybe there’s a bit of bias here but each spot has something magnificent for anyone and everyone who visits.
New York, New York
Yes, this may seem like a cliché choice. But New York City remains one of the most amazing places to visit year-round. The fall season brings such a wonderful energy to NYC that is unmatchable to any others around it.
The touristy stuff is great, if you’re into that (visiting Times Square, duh) but NYC is so much more amazing when you get out of those tired environments and into something absolutely spectacular. Take a long walk on the Chelsea Highline where you’ll get some incredible views of the city. Walk inside Chelsea Market, only steps away, for an endless variety of food that will make even the pickiest of eaters happy.
The gay scene is still thriving in 2019. If you are a bar-friendly person then The Eagle, Gym Sportsbar, Boxers and many other locations throughout the city will make you feel welcome and happy. The historic Stonewall Inn is a must visit while you’re in The Big Apple as are the gay bars that encompass the chic and sophisticated West Village.
Your shopping options run deeper than a top inside a bottom in a TimTales scene. Classic spots to spend your cash at include Bloomingdale’s in Midtown East all the way to Nasty Pig in Chelsea. A suit at one place and a new jock at another? Sold!
Overall New York City is still the s**t and a place that is worth going to in the fall for all your food, shopping and lifestyle needs.
National Harbor, Maryland
The most fabulous hidden gem in the east coast. What a treasure it was to find when I stopped by this magical city earlier this year.
National Harbor is only 20 minutes outside DC and a great escape from the hustle and bustle that is that area. Its atmosphere is nothing short of relaxing as you drive into an area that looks like something out of a life size Monopoly board.
The views in National Harbor hit you harder than Boomer Banks unleashing his monster member (hehe). Everything from its beautiful waters and towering Ferris Wheel are a joy to look at while you relax inside one of the area’s many hotel options.
Shopping, just like NYC, is a breeze in National Harbor. Stop by their Tanger Outlets for everything you could possibly want. In the need for a night of gambling and more? The MGM National Harbor will service all of your needs not to mention them keeping you full with an array of restaurants that include casual (Shake Shack) all the way to something more decadent (Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse). Providence, Rhode Island
Providence doesn’t get the love it deserves. It serves as a midway point between Boston and NYC however I find it interesting that most of my friends have yet to spend time in Rhode Island’s capital city.
The area, which has undergone a major transformation over the past decade, is a delight to spend time in as its culinary and nightlife scene rival the major cities that surround it.
The gay scene is so big that it feels like there are more bars catered to the LGBTQ community than anything else. Dark Lady, Eagle and so many more have something for everyone while you enjoy a night in the city’s downtown area.
You can also experience a “go big or go home” kind of atmosphere at the Providence Place Mall, one of the biggest on the east coast, and at the Dunkin Donuts Center for one of their incredible events or concerts.
A must when you are in Providence is to head to either Thayer Street (right by Brown University) or Federal Hill for a variety of culinary options that will blow you away. Federal Hill is known for its endless Italian restaurants that serve up some of the tastiest pastas, pizzas and desserts I’ve ever had. Yum.
