If you are planning to visit the Island of Hawaii in September – why not time it to coincide with Kona Pride. The Island of Hawaii will be celebrating its Second Annual Kona Pride on September 14, 2019 at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel Luau Grounds.  The offering of Kona Pride will allow the LGBT Community and friends located on the west side of the island to celebrate Pride more conveniently as the other pride Is held in town of Hilo, a two-hour drive from Kailua-Kona.

This Pride event in Kailua-Kona is all about promoting inclusivity for all. Entertainment at Kona Pride will be for everyone, for the adults as well as activities for the young ones to enjoy.

Join Kona Pride on the Big Island to celebrate equality, diversity, love, and community. We feature this years theme “Spread Your Wings with Pride” at this annual daytime festival that brings great awareness and support to our LGBTQ and supporting allies! We have an amazing day full of entertainment vendors, food, cocktails, and some amazing FUN IN THE SUN activities (so wear something that can get wet!) We look forward to seeing you there + Be sure to bring all your friends!  –  www.konapride.com

As we’ve mentioned in previous posts about visits to the islands, the Hawaiian people are extremely gracious and welcoming so you’ll definitely have a great time celebrating Pride.

Where To Stay?

If you do go, we suggest booking a stay with one of our favorite hotels, The Fairmont Orchid. The resort is a AAA Four Diamond luxury resort nestled in 32 lush acres along the Kohala coast at the very northern tip of the island of Hawaii. The Fairmont Orchid was recently named the best hotel on Hawaii Island by USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2019 (full review coming next week).

Not only is The Fairmont Orchid the best pick on the island year round, the hotel has a special Pride Package to further entice you.  We love the Fairmont Hotel brand as it is always participating in and giving back to the local and LGBT community in all the cities they are located. We would like to thank them for being a Silver Level Sponsor of Kona Pride this year.

What Else To See And Do Besides Pride?

Besides visiting Kona and Hawaii for pride this September and making new friends, we also recommend checking out what makes Hawaii a true wonder.

The Island of Hawaii is both the youngest and the largest island in Hawaii.  Larger than all the other islands combined, which is why residents used to refer to it as the Big Island. The Island of Hawaii comprises of 4,028 square miles and are divided into six moku (districts) – Hilo, Puna, Kau, Kona, Kohala and Hamakua. With the island surprisingly having four of the world’s different climate zones, ranging from West Tropical to polar tundra, you can truly experience and appreciate the boundless natural wonder and diversity of the Island of Hawaii’s landscape. You’ll see firsthand that Hawaii is home to everything from towering waterfalls, rugged coastline, and places of recent volcanic activity, to emerald valleys, white sand beaches, dense rainforests and places of historical significance to Hawaiian culture.
