UN to discuss the killing of homosexuals by ISIL. Now kids are involved in the stonings.

Yet another video of two men being sentenced and killed because of their supposed homosexuality has come from the Middle East.  This time, the reports are glorifying that children were major participants in carrying out the death sentences.  PinkNews reports:

A number of children helped pelt two men with stones, as the terrorist group known as Islamic State executed them for homosexuality.  In a shocking clip released this week, two men accused of being gay were thrown off a roof in Homs, Syria.  The crowd – including children who appear to be of primary school age – then help the group pelt the bodies with stones.  The six-minute video […] sees the men sentenced to death for ‘homosexuality’, according to a proclamation.  They are led up a building and onto a high roof, before being thrown off. As their bodies hit the ground, the waiting crowd rushes forward to pelt them with stones. – pinknews.co.uk

PinkNews had another picture of one man being thrown off the roof, but I chose not to post it here.

We've reported on this before and many comments from our readers have been, "yes, this is awful, but what can be done?  What can we do?"  I don't have the answer.  None of us do, but it looks like the UN may try to do something soon.

The United Nations Security Council will this month hold its first ever meeting on LGBT rights – to tackle the issue of the terrorist group’s persecution of gay people.

US ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, told reporters on Thursday that the meeting will focus on “ISIL and its systematic targeting of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) persons who find themselves in ISIL-controlled territory.”

The meeting will be hosted by the US and Chile, and all member states interested in LGBT protections will be able to attend.- pinknews.co.uk

We will send positive thoughts to the UN Security Council, but can they accomplish anything?  Will highlighting the ISIL atrocities against homosexuals ramp up the international fight against the Islamic State?  Will we see more anti-ISIL action because of it?  Is there hope to place these activities in the same category as genocide?  At least someone is trying and we wish them success.

Why is involving children in these killings so upsetting?  During my years of teaching, one of the courses I instructed was Geography and one of the aspects of geography we focused on was social / cultural / political patterns.  As part of this study, students noticed nations that identified as Muslim nations had their largest segment of their population in the 7 to 17 year old range.  Pointing out that if these nations are learning to hate the United States, their children are as well.  The same goes for ISIL and anti-homosexual activity.  If they learn it when young, will these nations and ISIL occupied territories ever unlearn it?

Once again, we wish the best for this upcoming UN Security Council meeting.  They have a daunting task to take care of this current issue, but as mentioned, this issue will affect or LGBT family members in the Middle East for years to come.

Do you think the UN can do something to stop these horrible acts from occurring?

  1. And how are they supposed to

And how are they supposed to stop the killing of homosexual people by ISIS? I see it as an impossible mission because you need to get rid of Islam first and that means having to reeducate the minds of millions of people and you also need enormous power to tackle muslims in position of power.

  2. Nothing will probably come of

Nothing will probably come of this UN meeting. It seems that it is more important for our Gay community to fight Christians who will not bake us wedding cakes than it is to fight Muslims who persecute and murder our Gay brothers in the Islamic world.  Do Gay Muslim lives matter?  Not as much as our wedding cakes, it seems.
