One Oregon student is making the rounds online after he came out to his Christian University through an extravagant performance.
Reid Arthur gathered together a group of his friends to help him leave a lasting impression on their school, George Fox University. The group danced to a combination of Taylor Swift’s “…Ready For It” and “You Need To Calm Down.”
During the second song, Arthur stood in the middle of the group. The two lines of friends on opposite sides of him then pulled on his sleeves to reveal rainbow ribbons hanging from his shirt.
Tonight I helped one of my favorite people come out, and the love and joy that surrounded this moment is going to stick with me for the rest of my life. I’m so proud of you @reidoburrito95 ♥️🥰 https://t.co/Jor3kHQZed

Coming out is always a daring process. A process, which, most LGBTQ people have to continue doing throughout their lives. But Reid Arthur’s decision to come out to a large crowd of George Fox University students, faculty, staff, and more was an even more daring decision. The reason being that the Christian University holds “the historic Christian position on [the] topic” of marriage. Meaning, they see it as between a man and a woman.
But that’s not the only heroic thing done by Reid Arthur and his friends. The group won the lip-sync competition and its cash prize. They then promised to donate the $500 winnings to LGBTQ charities GLAAD and The Trevor Project.
Thank you so much to everyone in this group pic.twitter.com/AiuEDHnsSQ

Hey @reidoburrito95 I saw what you did at lip sync and as a bisexual alumnus I want to thank you for taking such strides to welcome and support the lgbtq+ students of GFU. I’m currently in bed crying about this.

As dazzling and inspiring as @reidoburrito95 and crew’s performance was, it shouldn’t have to take a literal song and dance for you to change your LGBTQ+ policies @georgefox. We’ve been existing, crying out, and feeling ostracized and neglected for years. Listen this time. https://t.co/MAvYpbIZyg

We have come so far to see a gay student be embraced by his Christian school , I could never even imagine that happening 10 years ago when I was at my Christian school.
This is an amazing story ! Thank you for reporting on it , it’s always nice seeing gay kids succeeding 🙂 Love it!
