Pennsylvania is backing openly gay politicians.
The state of Pennsylvania is known for openly gay Representative Brian Sims, and the state voted to re-elect Sims as a House Representative at the country’s capital.
But now it seems that Sims has company as another openly gay politician will be representing the state.
Earlier this year, we introduced you to Malcolm Kenyatta. Kenyatta has politics in his blood as his father, Muhammad Kenyatta, was a civil rights leader, minister, and mayoral candidate for Philadelphia back in 1975.
Back in the ‘70s, Muhammad changed his name from Donald Brooks Jackson in order to honor Kenya’s first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Islamic leader Elijah Muhammad.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Malcolm Kenyatta worked in political campaign offices, including Hilary Clinton's in 2016, and worked with several political organizations such as the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Equality Pennsylvania, Liberty City LGBT Democratic Club, and the National Organization for Women.
Now, Kenyatta will be serving under the state’s legislature as a member of Pennsylvania’s state House of Representatives.
In response, Kenyatta thanked voters on Instagram and shared the message, “Nothing is impossible!”
Meanwhile, Brian Sims shared that fighting for the people is his life's work and thanked voters for re-electing him. Sims also congratulated Kenyatta on his win.
