A bouncer who attacked a gay nightclub customer has escaped a jail sentence.
According ot the Manchester Evening News, 30-year-old Amir Naghdlou was working as a bouncer at the Kiki bar in Manchester on July 15, 2017.
Around 3:50 a.m., Naghdlou was trying to clear out the bar so that the establishment could close, but a group of young men were sticking around. Prosecutors say that the men were “slow in leaving” the building and were “causing something of a nuisance.” That said, prosecutors say that group’s actions did not warrant Naghdlou’s response.
One of the men was drinking from a glass when Naghdlou asked the men to leave the building. After a few moments, Naghdlou then decided to knock the glass out of the man’s hand. The prosecution says he then grabbed the man by the neck.
In response, the man grappled by Naghdlou threw a plastic glass at him, which resulted a cut to Naghdlou’s lip that later needed surgery.
While there is no security footage of the event, the Manchester Crown Court judge says he believes the stories being told.
The story, however, becomes muddled after this point with different accounts of Naghdlou’s increased rage. Naghdlou may have punched the grappled man in the shoulder “at least once,” kicked his shoulder, and more. But again, there’s no way of totally knowing.
While Naghdlou was initially charged with assault causing bodily harm, that charge was dropped. But, the Manchester Crown Court jury convicted Amir Naghdlou convicted of common assault.
At his sentencing, Amir Naghdlou was given a 12 month community order with the assignment to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service. In addition, he was suspended from his job while the court proceedings played out.
