Jake Gyllenhaal is playing an LGBTQ character again.
While Gyllenhaal won’t be in an iconic role such as 2005’s Brokeback Mountain, we will see him in a gay sex scene for his latest work, according to Queerty.
Gyllenhaal will feature in an upcoming Netflix horror movie titled Velvet Buzzsaw. The film, directed by Nightcrawler’s Dan Gilroy, centers around the terror wrought after a famous artist uses human blood to paint his work. The artist’s paintings then start to come to life and start killing whatever’s in arm’s reach.
The film is scheduled to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27, 2019 before releasing on a limited theatrical run on February 1st. On the latter date, the rest of the world will also get to see the film through Netflix.
As for Gyllenhaal himself, he plays an art critic who gets incredibly freaked out by the story’s events (and has sex with another man at some point). Gyllenhaal is also joined by a smart cast such as Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs, Stranger Things’ Natalia Dyer, celebrated artists Toni Collette and John Malkovich, Rene Russo, Tom Sturridge, Zawe Ashton, Billy Magnussen, and more.

Update 1/15/2019:
After digging into the story further, we found that 2018 reports/rumors of Gyllenhaal's character described him as bisexual. That said, the current wave of reporting, originating from Queerty, state that the character is gay.
Perhaps the character's sexuality was changed during production. Until we can verify from a source outisde of Queerty, we will continue to state that Gyllenhaal's character is bisexual and has a gay male sex scene in the film.
Who lied to you? There is no
Who lied to you? There is no gay sex scene in Velvet Buzzsaw (which means cunilingus btw). Jake's sex scene is with a woman, the actress Zawe Ashton. Check the trailer, it's there. So much wishful thinking and projection from the guy at Queerty that he had to make up scenes that doesn't exist. Ridiculous.
As noted in the article, the
As noted in the article, the film hasn't come out yet, but reports say that there is a gay sex scene in the film. In addition, the scene in the trailer only shows a pair of legs that Gyllenhaal is sitting next too. But, it's too dark to call whether they're a man's or woman's legs.
I've looked into the issue further and 2018 reports/rumors about the film claimed that Gyllenhaal's character was going to be bisexual (https://twitter.com/velvetbuzzsaw_/status/1004105651847684097?lang=en). Perhaps that is still the case and his character has both a gay sex scene and a straight scene. Or perhaps he was changed to gay sometime during production. Again, the film hasn't come out yet and there's not much info on the issue.
I'll see if I can reach out to Gyllenhaal's rep or the film's team for a comment.
