If you haven’t seen season 1 of Adults yet, consider this your sign to start bingeing. Because while FX and Hulu’s breakout comedy gives us five messy twenty-somethings trying to survive adulthood, it also gives us something much more important: a friends-to-maybe-lovers storyline that has us absolutely drowning in yearning.
And yes, we’re talking about Anton and Paul.
One Kiss Was All It Took
Adults follows five chaotic friends living together in a rent-free Queens home while one of their parents travels the world. What starts as a familiar hangout sitcom quickly becomes a funny, heartfelt mess of questionable decisions, complicated relationships, and chosen-family chaos.
After spending the season insisting they were just friends, Anton and Paul Baker finally crossed that very thin line between friendship and something considerably more interesting this season. The circumstances were already ridiculous. Paul’s visa was about to expire, Issa initially agreed to marry him, then backed out, and Anton stepped in instead.
Yes, Anton and Paul accidentally became husbands through a green card marriage.
Elsewhere in season 1, their friends encouraged the newlyweds to seal the deal with a kiss. And when they finally did, social media basically lost its collective mind.
But honestly? The kiss was only the beginning.

The Chemistry Is Doing the Heavy Lifting
Owen Thiele and Jack Innanen have the kind of chemistry that makes even the most innocent interaction feel suspiciously loaded. Their characters can be joking around one second and looking at each other just a little too long the next.
It’s the classic friends-to-lovers setup, except Adults is patient enough to let the tension simmer.
And then there is Owen Thiele himself.

Bless those acting skills, but the man is also extremely easy on the eyes. It also doesn’t hurt that he had one of the hottest make-out scenes with Isaac Powell in season 2 of Adults.
His lean physique looks particularly unfair when he’s squeezed into a cropped baby tee and extremely low-rise jeans. And if that wasn’t enough, Thiele’s Polyester Zine shoot gives us plenty more to appreciate.
We’re talking tiny towel energy, coordinated looks, briefs, and one particularly cheeky moment involving a tiny motorbike.
Suddenly, watching Adults for the plot feels like only one of our responsibilities.
Let Us Yearn
While we’re busy rewatching season 1 and diving into season 2, we’re holding onto one very important question: what exactly is happening between Anton and Paul? Because after that kiss in season 2, going back to anything but lovers feels increasingly impossible.

Adults understands that sometimes the best romances aren’t the ones that happen immediately. They’re the ones that make you sit there screaming, “Just kiss already!” at your screen for an unreasonable number of times per episode.
And with Thiele and Innanen bringing this much chemistry to the table, we’re perfectly happy to keep waiting.
Preferably while Owen wears that baby tee again.
