From American Horror Story to American Crime Story, it looks like Billy Eichner has found a place outside of the comedy world.
Yes, it’s been recently announced that Billy on the Street comedian has joined the cast of Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story: Impeachment, which includes Sara Paulson, Beanie Feldstein, and Annaleigh Ashford. He’ll be playing reporter Matt Drudge, who broke the original news about the affair.
And yes, the show will be about the affair. The show will follow the Clinton-Lewinsky impeachment scandal that shook the White House and the United States of America. (And it didn’t escape us that this show is being produced while our current president is in the midst of his own impeachment trial).
In addition to Murphy heading the show, Monica Lewinsky herself will be producing the season. In fact, Murphy originally did not want to create the series. As he told Lewinsky, according to a 2018 article by the Hollywood Reporter, “I told her, ‘Nobody should tell your story but you, and it’s kind of gross if they do. If you want to produce it with me, I would love that; but you should be the producer and you should make all the goddamn money.’”
Thankfully, Murphy waited to do just that, and we look forward to seeing the finished project.
