Can Chip And Joanna Fix This Argument Like They Do Homes?

I'm a little on the fence with this one. If the Gaines Church does not support marriage equality, should we boycott the show?  If they do not support marriage equality themselves, should we boycott the show?  But what if they support LGBTQ individuals, just not marriage equality?

Okay, let's start over.  What is this Chip and Joanna controversy all about?

All of this HGTV mess that has been brewing for a couple of days has spawned itself from a recent BuzzFeed piece in which the website called out the television hosts for belonging to a church that does not support marriage equality.

The Benham Brothers, who had their own HGTV show canceled for a similar reason, shared their thoughts on The Kelly File, saying that the "thought Mafia's" attack of Chip and Joanna, the hosts of HGTVs show Fixer Upper, hit close to home.

Duck Dynasty is in its final season, by the way.

What was HGVT's response to this BuzzFeed buzz?  Yes, they said they do not discriminate at all.  That's all fine and good HGTV. We respect that. We understand that, and we expected that.

But is the Gaines' church anti-LGBT?

“Absolutely not, Pastor Siebert told me in an exclusive interview. “We are not only not anti-gay, but we are pro-helping people in their journey to find out who God is and who He has made them to be.”

The pastor told me he was surprised by the controversy surrounding a message he delivered more than a year ago pointing out that people from all different walks of life attend the church. – foxnews.com

But now i'm confused. Are we talking about anti-LGBT or anti-"Marriage Equality?"  And is being anti one and not anti the other okay?

Back to the main point of the BuzzFeed article we go … we think.

The Gaineses, who reside in Waco, Texas, attend Antioch Community Church and are claimed as "dear friends" by their pastor, Jimmy Seibert, who, after the 2015 Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage, told his congregation that homosexuality is a sin.

"Why is it so important that we're clear on marriage — one man, one woman in a covenant — why is that such a big deal? Because it mirrors Christ and the church … Paul said, 'When you defame marriage, you defame Jesus. You defame the picture of the glory of God on the Earth. Why is our marriage so important? Because when we do it well, it shows a picture of Jesus and his bride to the whole world. This is a clear biblical admonition. So if someone were to say marriage is defined in a different way, let me just say it this way, they are wrong."

Seibert has also spoken in defense of the controversial practice of conversion therapy. – 11alive.com

Can Chip and Joanna fix this argument like they fix homes?

Well.  They will need to come out and say what they are anti this, that, or the other, if anything, right?

Once they come forward, then the ball will be back into our LGBT thought mafia hands?

Do we stop watching if they are anti-LGBT?

Do we stop watching if they are anti-marriage equality?

Or do we even need to know what they believe in and to what level their beliefs go?

Was BuzzFeed in the wrong for raising this debate?

If they weren't the number one show on HGVT, would they already be gone because of hearsay?

What are your thoughts?

  4. I agree with CJ, it is one

I agree with CJ, it is one thing to believe in one man one woman for marriage it is another thing to verbally say your beliefs and to refuse to sell a house or to fix it up because of those beliefs. I have several straight friends who believe marriage should be one man one woman, but accept the law of the land and accept my marriage. Or at least they keep their opinions to them selves. Just like we keep our opinions  to our selves when we disapprove of things that straight people do. I like the show, I like the couple I for one don't want to know what their opinions are on the matter. Unless they refuse a gay couple then that will be another matter to discuss.

  5. Like most Texas “Christians “

Like most Texas "Christians " I'm sure they are anti-lgbt and anti-gay marriage.

But unless they are refusing clients because the are lgbt then that would make a difference otherwise this/they aren't  news.

  8. Like I tell friends who

Like I tell friends who support these churches or anti gay politicians "you may not shoot me but you loaded the gun." You are either part of the solution or part of the problem. Would they go to this church and give them money to preach hate against woman or children. If you're going to preach the bible then preach it all. Start stoning woman for not being a virgin at marriage. Do they ban woman who are on their periods? What about selling your daughter into slavery? Do they kill their neighbor for working on the sabbath? That's all in the bible.

    • The bible tells stories, no

The bible tells stories, no where does it say to kill your neighbor if they work on the sabbath,  if you read the entire text; eye for & eye, tooth for tooth; then God says vengeance is mine.  Also says love your neighbor as yourself.   So God has your back, and will deal with your enemies.  Looking through the history of the bible… All the way back to the original Hebrew Bible; homosexuality isn't mentioned, the translation is different & replies to any gender, or sexual preference.  The bible does say the church is his bride yet no gender specific references either.  Again the Hebrew translation mentioned a husband & wife yet doesn't state it's the only version.   God loves everyone!
