Drag Race España is making room for a King.
We’ve all come to love our drag queens. At this point, if someone randomly asks you in public if you have a favorite drag queen, you probably already have a top five ready to go.
Meet Marcus Massalami, the drag king who’s joining the queens for Season 6 and making a little herstory of his own. The sixth season will premiere September 27, 2026, with Marcus officially part of the 12-person cast.
And yes, honey, it’s about time.

A King Has Entered the Werk Room
Marcus Massalami is the drag persona of Melisa Meseguer, a 31-year-old Spanish artist, actress, activist, singer, violinist, and nurse. Meseguer has been performing as Marcus for years, long before Drag Race came knocking. According to El Diario, Marcus was created around three years before Meseguer’s 2022 interview, and the character became a way for her to challenge toxic masculinity through performance.
So this isn’t simply a woman putting on a beard and saying, “Look, I’m a man!”
Marcus is the whole performance. The whole message. The attitude, the voice, the aesthetics, the masculinity, and eventually the deconstruction of all of it.
Meseguer explained that she intentionally transforms Marcus throughout her performances, softening the traditionally masculine image and voice until the character becomes something more ambiguous, eventually performing from herself.
And honestly? We love a drag king who refuses to stay in one box.
Marcus Has Been Doing This Since Childhood
There’s also a surprisingly personal story behind the King.
Meseguer has spoken about creating male characters as a child, including a character named Francisco who would perform for her family during Christmas. She also used carnival as an opportunity to dress up, but eventually began hiding that side of herself after experiencing social punishment around masculinity from a young age.
It wasn’t until she studied dramatic arts that she reconnected with those characters.
She realized she was particularly drawn to playing male roles and questioned why being a woman meant she couldn’t portray them.
And now? She’s bringing that entire history into the Drag Race universe.
Drag King, But Make It Activism
Marcus isn’t just there to serve looks, although we’re certainly hoping for plenty of those.
For Meseguer, drag is also a way to poke holes in the rules surrounding masculinity. Her work uses humor, performance, and gender play to challenge toxic masculinity, turning something traditionally treated as rigid into something theatrical, ridiculous, and wonderfully queer.
And that’s what makes Marcus’ Drag Race debut so exciting.
Yes, we’re getting another fabulous performer to obsess over. But we’re also getting a drag king with a history, a point of view, and something to say.
Drag Race España Season 6 premieres September 27, 2026, and we are officially ready to welcome our King.
