Is “Sex And The City’s” Cynthia Nixon Running For Office in New York?

You probably know Cynthia Nixon from her time as Miranda Hobbes on Sex and the City, but you might soon know her as the governor of New York.

That’s right, news reports are flying that actress Cythia Nixon is interested in running as a candidate for the governor of New York State.

Reportedly, Nixon has talked to political strategists Bill Hyers and Rebecca Katz, two former advisors to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, about her chances of winning.

While Nixon is an acclaimed actress, who holds an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Tony award, she has not held a political office position before.

That said, she is constantly talking about political affairs and has openly opposed New York state’s current governor Andrew Cuomo on many of his political stances.

For instance, while accepting a Visibility Award at the Human Rights Campaign’s New York Gala, Nixon decided to give a speech about wealth inequality and “corporate Democrats.”

In addition, Nixon has also openly criticized President Donald Trump over his immigration and transgender bans.

Plus, Nixon criticized and called Vice President Mike Pence the “poster boy for anti-LGBT rhetoric, legislation and conversion therapy.”

That said, Nixon hasn’t officially announced that she’s running for office yet.

As the New York Times reports, Nixon’s publicist Rebecca Capellan fielded off questions with the following statement:

“Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it.

“If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public.”

If she were to run for office and win, Cythia Nixon would become the first openly bisexual Governor and the first woman in the role as well.

  1. Oh dear God! Cynthia Nixon is

Oh dear God! Cynthia Nixon is just a silly twit. What makes her think she is even remotely qualified to be Governor of New York?

  2. No. No. No.  I’m sorry, but

No. No. No.  I'm sorry, but celebrities should not run for political office simply because the have name recognition. I understand that she is well-versed in politics and has spoken at many a political rally, but being an activist is not the same as being a politician.  For instance, activists only have to care about one maybe two issues while a politician has to care about 1001 or 1002 issues at once.  If Ms. Nixon wants to run for political office, by all means, she is certainly entitled to.  However, if she is serious about a political career, she should begin with a lesser office like NY State Legislature or local town council and then work her way up.  Build relations with other elected officials and see how the sausage is made.  That's how successful politicians do it.  Political neophytes (liberal or conservative) should not begin with the highest office in the land.  Look what happened in 2016.
